The Philadelphia Flyers have yet to hire a new general manager and it sounds like whoever they hire will have a pretty big "to do" list once they take over. There's already been strong speculation that the team would like the new general manager to figure out the goalie situation ASAP and also get some depth at center. Now it's also believed that upper management would like the Wayne Simmonds situation figured out. Simmonds is on the final year of his deal and will become UFA after this season.During the offseason former general manager Ron Hextall said he was doing everything possible to keep him. While Hextall might have been trying to keep him, it doesn't sound like either side was ever on the same page as he revealed they were never even close to signing him. "There was a comfort level for us and a comfort level for them," Hextall said Friday. "We were a ways apart."
If the Flyers remain in the basement of the Eastern Conference it sounds like it's just a matter of time before the forward is traded. What do you think of Hextall's comments?
