The past few weeks, the Flyers organization and goalie position has been rocked by the news of the Carter Hart and 2018 WJC Team Canada investigation. Many began to panic and wonder what is next for the Flyers in between the pipes and even began rumors of trading for a goalie. After a hot start to the second half of the season, this Flyers goalie has not only proved he belongs but has emerged as a clear number one goalie.
The month of January ended in less-than ideal fashion for the Flyers as they limped into the All-Star break having lost five straight games and were outscored 27-12. Goalie Samuel Ersson also struggled, with the combination of the Hart situation, the everyday schedule, and trying to settle into a number one role.
As the All-Star break came at an opportunistic time for the Flyers, it seems that Ersson has found his rhythm and has really begun to put the Flyers on his back and gain confidence.
Last night Ersson had what looked like an easy time shutting down one of the NHL's best teams in the Winnipeg Jets, recording 28 saves on 29 shots with a .966 save percentage.

Ersson is proving to be a number one goalie at a time where the Flyers desperately needed one. Ersson's performance against the Jets comes just after shutting out the former Eastern Conference Champion Florida Panthers. In his past two starts, Ersson has saved 48 of 50 shots and recorded a .959 Save Percentage since the break.
The Flyers net-minder has also begun to move up the ranks of the entire NHL, being ranked in the top 10 in GAA while also carrying a 14-9-3 record on the season.
