"March continues to be a nightmare for the Philadelphia Flyers as they fall to 0-4-1 in the month after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins.
After Claude Giroux called out the power play last night, they needed just nine seconds into a double-minor penalty on Kevan Miller for high-sticking to score just 1:38 into the game. Nolan Patrick got the rebound off a shot by Giroux and passed not only through his own legs, but also Zdeno Chara's, to Jakub Voracek at the side of the net who tapped the puck into an open net for his 16th goal of the season.
A few moments after the Flyers killed off a Jori Lehtera slashing penalty, the Bruins tied the game about eight minutes later as Riley Nash got to the front of the net and tucked home a wraparound chance by David Pastrnak.
Bruins took the lead on an absolute garbage goal with just 26 seconds remaining in the first period. Tommy Wingels blatantly tripped Wayne Simmonds as he entered the zone which led to a breakaway for Brian Gionta who converted for his first goal of the season.
The Flyers tied the game with the only tally of the second period; a shorthanded goal from Jori Lehtera at the 7:21 mark. Valtteri Filppula passed through the slot to Lehtera on a 2-on-1 rush, who finished off the play by going backhand/forehand through the legs of Tuukka Rask. Radko Gudas picked up the secondary assist by taking the puck away from Brad Marchand and getting it out of the zone.
Playing two games in back-to-back nights took its toll on the Flyers during the final period as they just flat out ran out of gas. Marchand scored the game winning goal with just 22 seconds left in the game as he got to a loose puck in the crease before Shayne Gostisbehere and swept into the open cage. Dave Hakstol challenged the play for being offside, but the goal was upheld.
The Flyers will be off until Saturday afternoon when the host Steve Mason and the Winnipeg Jets. "
