On Monday, Feb. 12, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) made the announcement that the ban of Russia and Belarus would remain for the 2024-25 season as the political climate and war in Ukraine continue to rage. The ban of Russia and Belarus was implemented in February 2022 after the Russians invaded Ukraine.
On Wednesday night, many top Russian and Belarus hockey players, including some top Flyers prospects penned a letter to the IIHF President Luc Tardiff in an attempt to lift the ban on countries for the World Championships in 2025.

"17 former and current Russian junior national team members signed a letter to IIHF President Luc Tardiff with a demand to consider the issue of returning the team to the world championships."
Two of the 17 names signed in the letter just so happen to be Philadelphia Flyers top prospect
Matvei Michkov and Flyers goalie prospect Egor Zavragin.
With Michkov having one of the most historic seasons in the KHL with Sochi as a D+1 and Zavragin continuing to remain undefeated in the VHL, the IIHF president is sure to have some pressure applied as these top athletes are finding a way to use their voice.
Seeing Matvei Michkov perform in the World Championships would be a tremendous opportunity for not only Michkov take another step in his development, but it would give Flyers fans an opportunity to lay their eyes on a player who could change their franchise.
Will the IIHF President listen to these players or will he stand strong on his original decision made on Monday?
