For much of the season, the New Jersey Devils looked like a surprise playoff team out of the Metropolitan Division. Unfortunately, that sure looks in doubt with just three wins in their last 10 games.
A growing list of injuries has led to the Devils recent downfall. Today they added forwards Brian Boyle and John Quenneville to the list as neither made the trip to Philadelphia. The Devils enter tonight still in the top wild card spot, but they will need things to start trending the other way if they want to hang on to a playoff berth.
Michal Neuvirth will get the start tonight with Brian Elliott still out with a lower-body injury. Neuvirth has a better goals-against average and save percentage than Elliott on the season, albeit in a much smaller sample size. This will be Neuvirth's team until Elliott returns, which there is no timetable for yet.
Claude Giroux will play in his first game since being name the NHL's First Star of the Week. The Flyers top line has been as good as any line in the league of late and look to keep it up versus the Devils.
