"The Philadelphia Flyers will be back in action tomorrow night as they will play the final 33 games of the season in a 67-day span as they fight for their Stanley Cup playoff life. They will enter the stretch run with some uncertainty between the pipes.
Brian Elliott was placed on injured reserve due to a nagging lower-body injury and the team recalled Alex Lyon from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League. Lyon dressed for 10 games earlier this season when Neuvirth was out due to injury, but he has yet to make his NHL debut.
That could change this time around as the Flyers have back-to-back road games at Washington and New Jersey on Wednesday and Thursday.
"It's a different situation," head coach Dave Hakstol said, per NBC Sports Philadelphia. "There's still a strong possibility that both guys (Neuvirth and Lyon) will start one. I'm not going to make that decision right now or that distinction. I won't even go as far as saying who's going to start tomorrow."
Hakstol sounded like he will have no problem giving Lyon his first career start this week.
"If we need him, he'll play. Bottom line," Hakstol said. "He's ready to play and we have confidence in him. He's been with us before and he's a guy that's ready to play, and when called upon, he'll go in and do a good job if we decide to do that.""
