"The Philadelphia Flyers are in a bind as they are without both of their goaltenders, with forced a trade on Monday, and one of their most important forwards as they fight for their playoff lives. On Tuesday night, the team's best two players all season long stepped up for late rally and a 3-2 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens. About seven minutes into the game, the Canadiens did get the puck in behind Alex Lyon, but were not awarded a goal. Tomas Plekanec's centering pass from behind the net hit off of Lyon's paddle and trickled between his legs. However, he was able to lean back and prevent the puck from fully going over the goal line, or least blocked the camera inside the cage from seeing the puck cross the line. Unfortunately, Lyon did not have much a chase on the opening goal of the game at 17:47 of the first period. Karl Alzner's shot from the point hit off his defensive partner Jeff Petry, who was at the front of the net for some reason, for his career-high ninth goal of the season. The Flyers got the first power play of the night just shy of seven minutes into the second period and it was an interesting one. First, Shayne Gostisbehere fired a missile from the point that hit goaltender Carey Price right in the side of the net. Price stayed down for a couple of moments and was able to shake it off and stay in the game. The concussion spotter must have been out getting a hot dog. Shortly after Price got his bell rung, the goal horn sounded. Wayne Simmonds has made a living scoring power play goals in front of the net and Nolan Patrick filled his spot nicely tonight. Patrick stopped in the slot to redirect a pass from Claude Giroux past Price for his seventh goal of the year and first career power play. Jakub Voracek picked up the secondary assist for his league-leading 55th helper. The Canadiens took a 2-1 lead at 8:45 of the third period on just their second shot of the frame. Alex Lyon came out of his net to try to prevent a Plekanec centering pass, but could not get his stick on it and Paul Byron had a wide-open net to fire the puck into. Patrick, who had a great game, is not going to like the video room review of this goal as he tried to do way too much defensively and did more harm than good. A teachable moment for the youngster. Seconds after Lyon got the bench for an extra attacker, Voracek tied the game at 18:35 as his shot from the right point ticked off of Alzner's skate and got in behind Price. Sean Couturier and Shayne Gostisbehere picked up the assists on Voracek's 12th goal of the year. Voracek struck again 1:26 in overtime to win the game and give the Flyers the extra point. Valtteri Flippula started the rush by blocking a Montreal scoring chance and getting the puck out to Gostisbehere. Voracek got the puck in the right circle, used Joe Morrow as screen while he skated left and went bar-down back to his right, over Price's glove hand, for the game winning goal. The Flyers are off until Thursday night when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets in a very important Metropolitan Division game. "
