"Nearly everybody thought the Flyers season was done after their 10-game winning streak, but after their 3-2 overtime win at the Detroit Red Wings, they are now tied for second place in the Metropolitan Division. There are a lot of words that can be used to described tonight's first period and exciting is not one of them as each team only mustered four shots on goal. However, the Red Wings were able to cash in on one of their four shots at the 10:43 mark. Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson fired off a wrist shot from the left point that deflected off Brandon Manning in front of the net and got by Brian Elliott on the short side. After Flyers only had four shots on goal in the first period, they got five pucks on Petr Mrazek in the first four minutes of the second period. One of those shots tied the game just over a minute in as Andrew MacDonald's slap shot from the high slot found its way through heavy traffic and into the Wings net. Jakub Voracek picked up his league-leading 46th assist on MacDonald's second goal of the year. Voracek ended an 0-for-13 drought on the power play and a 15-game goalless streak in the final minute of the second period to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. A loose puck found Voracek's stick in front of the net and he quickly swept it past Mrazek. Sean Courturier and Claude Giroux were credited with the assists. Frans Neilsen tied the game at the 10:44 mark of the third period by finding the puck off of Tomas Tatar's stick and pounding it past Brian Elliott. The game headed into overtime, but only because rookie Tyler Bertuzzi missed two wide open nets down the stretch. Just like in Washington on Sunday, Travis Konecny ended the game 27 seconds into the extra time. Konecny picked up the puck at the blue line and then sniped the puck off Mrazek's glove hand from below the right circle. The play was reviewed for being offside, but the goal stood as it was ruled that Konecny was able to tag up and get onside before touching the puck. Konecny is the first Flyer to score an overtime goal in back-to-back games since Sami Kapanen did it in December of 2005. He now has four game winning goals, one behind Sean Couturier for the team lead. Since the 10-game losing streak, the Flyers have now gone 16-5-1. That is pretty darn impressive! "
