There have been many reasons to attribute the Flyers success in 2024 to. From the tough, accountable coaching of head coach John Tortorella to the emergence of Joel Farabee and goalie Samuel Ersson, many individual efforts have gone unnoticed. One category sees the Flyers lead the NHL in and is a direct representation of Torts' coaching.
It's no surprise that the Flyers penalty kill efforts has been renamed the "power kill" because of the success they have found in it. With a kill rate of over 80% the Flyers rank in the leagues top ten when they are down a man.
In addition to being ranked in the top ten in the penalty kill, the Flyers also currently lead the entire NHL in shorthanded goals with 11 as Ryan Poehling netted another shorty in last night's win.

Along with Poehling's shorthanded goal, the leader of the Flyers power kill has been All-Star Travis Konecny. Konecny currently individually leads the NHL in most shorthanded goals on the season with five shorthanded goals on the year thus far.
With the Flyers drawing their strength from being down a man, it will be interesting to see if the Flyers lead the NHL in that category at seasons end.
