Saturday night's performance by goalie Cal Petersen turned the heads of many Flyers fans and analysts. After not having made an NHL start in nearly three months, the Flyers goalie led the orange and black to their third straight win against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night with a thrilling 3-2 victory. One NHL legend in particular was impressed by Petersen's dominance.
NHL legend and former Flyers rival Mark Messier is one of the top analysts on ESPN's NHL coverage throughout the season. As the Flyers went into the second intermission against the Kraken on ESPN+, Messier offered a statement on Petersen's performance that not only shocked Flyers fans, but all Flyers fans.
"Cal Petersen looks like Bernie Parent tonight. Standing up, great positioning, great rebounds, and doing everything he can to get Philadelphia in this game. Seattle's been pressuring him but he's been standing tall. He's been athletic, quick on his feet, and competing."
Obviously, Petersen has a long way to go to catch Parent, but his performance on Saturday night was nothing short of spectacular.
