Philadelphia Flyers newest goalie and hottest commodity Ivan Fedotov saw his first game action on Tuesday night in the Flyers loss to the New York Islanders, impressing fans and teammates as the 27-year-old rookie comes in at a desperate time for the Flyers.
The Flyers desperately needed Fedotov as they quickly fell behind the New York Islanders as Samuel Ersson allowed two goals on the Islanders first six shots. After head coach John Tortorella decided to make the change, Fedotov came in and made his presence felt immediately, producing a huge second period.
New York attacked Fedotov early, ripping 17 shots in the second period, but the rookie looked far from it as he made key stops and kept the Flyers in it until the end. Fedotov stopped 16 of the 17 shots in the second period, making impressive plays against Matthew Barzal and a Kyle MacLean slap shot.
According to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, the person most impressed by the new goalie was head coach John Tortorella.

After his first NHL experience, Fedotov took to the media after the game and offered an interesting quote that spoke to his desire to help the Flyers win.
"I'm not (a) young guy. I have some experience, and (I) know how it's working. I don't care if I'm playing from the first minute or (entering) during the game. I need to play, so it doesn't matter. I just want to help the team."
Although the Flyers ultimately fell in overtime, Fedotov offered a defensive spark the Flyers desperately needed and still remain in a heated playoff race in the Metro Division.
The Flyers are back in action on Friday as they travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres.
