Friday night was not a shining moment for the Philadelphia Flyers and their fans after the orange and black dropped a crucial Division matchup to the Washington Capitals 5-2 after carrying a 2-0 lead into the second period. After giving up five unanswered goals, Flyers head coach John Tortorella was not happy with one of his young stars to say the least, and it showed on the bench in the nations capital.
At the end of the second period, the Capitals took their first lead of the night as John Carlson scored the Caps third goal in the period. While coming back to the bench, Flyers head coach John Tortorella was seen screaming at Bobby Brink, in a moment that lit Flyers twitter on fire.
Following Torts' blow up on the bench, he doubled down on Brink by not playing him at all in the third period, as the Flyers gave up two more goals and ultimately fell 5-2 in one of the more ugly losses of the season. After the game, Tortorella addressed the media and gave his response when asked about why Brink was benched.
"Not with the stupidity prior, that's it, not with the stupidity, not seeing the ice."
After just being recalled from Lehigh Valley on Monday, Brink has played well in his first two games with the Flyers, scoring a goal in each of his first two games back in the NHL after spending the last month with the Phantoms.
Tortorella's coaching style isn't a secret and he is all about holding his players accountable. Many, however, felt that Tortorella screaming at Brink wasn't the best move, especially considering Brink is a young star who is just trying to get his feet under him and for the most part, has had success on the offensive end in his short 50 game career thus far.
Did Torts blow up on Brink change the game for the Flyers?
