"The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their third straight preseason game last night and have yet to register a win. While you can discount it as ""only preseason"" the team hasn't shown much so far and a slow start in the NHL can be deadly these days. After practice on Friday, new head coach Alain Vigneault voiced his displeasure with the group pointing at lack of effort from veterans and youngsters. ""Usually I I give the the veteran players, 3 of the 6 or 7 games that we play. I feel at this time that our players, veteran players, need more games than when I originally planned. So I'm going from 3 that I planined to 4, and some might even get five out of the seven.""
Vigneault added that the staff is going to make a huge amount of roster cuts in the next 24 hours and would like the team down to 18 forward, 10 defenseman and three goalies. "" This group has been off for a while. In my mind, it just needs a little bit more preparation. And there's nothing better than game situations where, you know, games are on the line. ...We'll accelerate the process.""
""The amount of teaching that we're doing, there's there's a lot there. There's a lot to be assimilated by the players, but what I'm seeing in both the players performance, how they're executing....I just feel that at this time, we need to make a change.""
The Flyers head coach was asked if he expects any kind of pull back from veteran players expected to play so much in preseason.""They don't have a choice. That's just the way it is.""
