"The Philadelphia Flyers will be without Brian Elliott as they make their stretch run towards a possible postseason berth. With the NHL trade deadline 11 days away, there has been plenty of speculation that Ron Hextall may look to add a goaltender. Justin Bourne of The Athletic addressed the recent trade rumors that the Flyers and Buffalo Sabres and came up with a proposal involving the New York Rangers, who are looking to move some of their veterans to get younger. "Tell me if you think this could work: Henrik Lundqvist to the Flyers for one of two deals: Travis Sanheim (D), Samuel Morin (D), Anthony Stolarz (G), and Jori Lehtera (LW). Or, the Rangers agree to eat Andrew MacDonald's contract and it's Sanheim, Morin, MacDonald, and Carter Hart." In either scenario, that is a lot to give up for a 35-year-old goaltender, but if Hextall thinks this team is a goaltender away from making a serious playoff then it's a move he could consider. Lundqvist is signed through the 2020-21 season and comes with a $8.5 million salary cap hit. Bourne mentions that the Flyers have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to young defensemen. Since they are not likely to dress six 21-year-old blue liners at the same time, players like Sanheim or Morin can be used to acquire a young forward or goaltender. Is this a trade Ron Hextall should be exploring?"
