The Toronto Maple Leafs have been deemed soft and one of the nicest teams in the NHL by many NHL pundits. There have been too many times where the team has not responded after one of their players suffered an injury on a bad play.
Leaf fans know all too well when Brad Marchand decided to dump defenseman Timothy Liljegren into the boards a few months ago who suffered a high ankle sprain on the play. The Leafs did not react.
Fast forward to tonight's game against Seattle Kraken, Brandon Tanev decided to take a shot at Liljegren which Leafs defender Jake McCabe had seen enough and decided to drop his gloves.

After a slow start, McCabe managed to gain the upper hand and began to throw wild punches against Tanev who barely had a chance to respond. After several bombs landing on Tanev's face, he dropped to the ice and the fight was over.
This is the kind of response the Maple Leafs need to do to defend their teammates like every team does. There's no reason why they cannot look after one another especially their younger players. McCabe has had a good stretch of hockey over the past few weeks and this fight capped off that great run.
