The Philadelphia Flyers season recently finished and they played above expectations most of the season. However, it is clear that there is more work to be done for the Flyers to be legitimate cup contenders. Danny Briere has made it clear, that becoming cup contenders for years to come is the goal, therefore more trades could happen this offseason. Here are five potential trade candidates for the Flyers.
The first Flyer is forward Scott Laughton. Laughton has drawn interest from teams last offseason and this past trade deadline. Per Frank Seravalli, the Flyers were offered a first round pick last offseason. If the Flyers are offered a first-round pick again this offseason, it could make a lot of sense for the Flyers to pull the trigger since Laughton is entering his age 30 season and the Flyers are in a rebuild.
The next Flyer is Joel Farabee, Joel Farabee is only 24 years old so he should draw a lot of interest. Farabee is coming off a season in which he set career highs in goals (22), assists (28) and points (50). However, Farabee did struggle in the 2nd half of the season, as he had 40 points in his first 48 games and only 10 points the remainder of the season. Inconsistency is not new to Farabee as he has had inconsistent stretches throughout his career, but with him being under contract for the next 4 seasons, there could be high value in return for him.
The next Flyer is Morgan Frost, Frost seemed to have issues with head coach John Tortorella as he has been a healthy scratch multiple times. However, down the stretch, Morgan Frost became one of the top contributors on offense this past season. Frost ranked third on the team with 30 points in the last 44 games of the regular season. Frost has 1 year left on his contract and then will become a restricted free agent; however, he only has $2.1 million cap hit for next season, which could draw a lot of interest from other teams.
The next Flyer is Rasmus Ristolainen, now it may be tough to move him as he has injury concerns but not impossible. Ristolainen only played 31 games this past season, but he did lead all Flyers defensemen with a 56.67 Expected Goals For percentage at 5-on-5.
The last Flyers is Travis Konecny, who may be the Flyers best forward, who should have high value as he only has a $5.5 million cap hit. Travis Konecny made the All-Star team this past season and set career highs in goals (33) and points (68). Konecny is also great in all situations as he led the league in shorthanded goals with 6. Now, if the Flyers traded him, it could help greatly with the rebuild as he has ton of value. However, losing your top offensive player that the Flyers drafted, could also be a huge risk for Danny Briere. We shall see shortly if any of these players will be on the move.
