It's been a wild week for the Flyers and their former first round pick Cutter Gauthier In an interesting twist of news and rumors to why he did not want to play for the Flyers.

After the news broke that general manager Danny Briere was doing all he can to keep Gauthier with the Flyers to no end was forced to move him to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Jamie Drysdale in a second-round pick in 2025.
Now that the dust has settled some, teammates and coaches of Boston College had begun to speak out in favor of Cutter. Many were surprised on the move but are in full support of their teammate.
Nikita Nesterenko, a former BC teammate who now plays for the San Diego Guls didn't know at first did not know what to make of the trade.

«Originally, I felt like they were just congratulating him on the world juniors or something,» Nesterenko said. «Something weird. Maybe some kind of connection. And then I saw they acquired him. I was like, Wow, that's crazy.'»

«He's got a good personality,» Nesterenko said. «He's not afraid to speak his mind. People are seeing that, Obviously, the Flyers' fan base and organization is going to be a little salty and pissed off that they didn't get such a star player. Right away, when you're kind of pissed off, your first instinct is to trash the kid and say that he's entitled and he doesn't want to be there. He's a great kid.»

His associate head coach Brendan Buckley also came to Cutter's defence and was also saying praise on what kind of a player and person he is.

For his part, Buckley has «nothing but great things to say about him and what he has done for our program over the last two years.»

«He has been a great teammate, a great guy to coach, he's competitive in practice, he pushes himself, he wants to get better, he wants the team to do well,» Buckley said. «Last year, we weren't where we probably wanted to be, and then we had a nice class come in with some good talent and he helped them out and helped get them up to speed.»

It's certainly a tough pill to swallow knowing that your 5th overall choice in 2022 will not be with the team, but on the other hand they now have a prospective defenceman who is showing great skill already and has tons of upside along with the 2nd rounder who will help them soon.
