The NHL concluded it's trade deadline day this afternoon and during the final hour of the deadline it appeared that the Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher was trading forward James Van Riemsdyk to the Detroit Red Wings.

However, moments after the trade broke it was revealed that Van Riemsdyk wasn't going to be traded after all. During the press conference, Fletcher seemed to disrespect Van Riemsdyk who was slotted in as the number one player on the trade bait list.
Fletcher said: "I didn't get a firm offer of even a 4th round pick for JvR."

"Do you think your ask was too high for JVR?

"No. No." Chuck Fletcher said in response.

"We certainly made everyone aware that he was available. We made them aware we'd retain 50 percent. We even said we'd take back a contract."

Fletcher seemed agitated with the questions about Van Riemsdyk saying:
Chuck Fletcher: "You guys are gonna beat this one up, oh my gosh."

It seems that a trade was in place for Van Riemsdyk to head to Detroit but Fletcher obviously didn't get what he was asking, but with JVR being a UFA this summer, why didn't Fletcher take what ever he could, even if it was a 5th round pick? It's better than no picks when Van Riemsdyk won't likely be back in Philadelphia next season.
