As a result of his inconsistent play recently, Sanheim has also seen a decline in his offensive production this season as well. In spite of all of this, in 81 games this year, he managed to put up 7 goals and 23 assists, resulting in a respectable 30 points.
According to Hockey Insider Eklund, the Oilers will be looking to add to their blueline in order to bolster their defense, and the addition of Sanheim could be a solution to the team's problems.
The trade would be successful if Sanheim signed off on it, along with Edmonton making the cap fit. Sanheim's 8-year, $50 million dollar contract is fairly large, and Edmonton would have to make it fit if the deal worked.
In the case that Sanheim approves the trade, he would be able to play with two of the best players in the game and would also be playing for a contender, what could be better than that?
