For the entire Philadelphia Flyers organization and their fans, the entire Carter Hart situation is a disappointing one for all involved. On Monday fans officially learned that Hart will most likely never play another game in the orange and black. The Flyers now look to proceed and take the next steps to better the organization for the future.

Despite the situation, there has been some good news for the Flyers as the NHL announced that the Flyers will receive cap relief for Carter Hart's $11M contract this offseason. With having new money to work with, the Flyers could set themselves up for an ideal financial situation for the summer.
If the Flyers can also place Ryan Ellis on LITR (long term injured reserve) being that Ellis has only played four total games for the Flyers since 2021, first year GM Danny Briere could potentially have over $10M extra to work with this offseason.
Not only does this bode well for the free agency period during the summer, but it changes the perspective on how Briere and the Flyers can approach trade talks. With money like that, the Flyers can approach trade talks by being in the drivers seat and be the ones facilitating the deal, rather than being strong-armed.
"If the Flyers put Ellis on LTIR, and you add in Hart's salary, Briere will have like $10 million in cap space to weaponize this season, leaving him with a ton of options to help facilitate trades between cap-strapped teams and pick up additional assets."
