As an unrestricted free agent, Hathaway was in search of a new team and contract, and eventually signed a 2-year, $2.375 million AAV deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Despite not being a top scorer, Hathaway managed to record 13 goals and 9 assists in 82 games last season, making him an ideal 3rd or 4th line winger.
Garnet Hathaway said Flyers have always been hard to play against. He said Flyers told him they want to get back to that. He believes he can help, it's something he takes pride in as a player.
Hathaway expressed that he was drawn to the Flyers because he admired their reputation as a tough team to play against, and he appreciated the opportunity to be an older voice in the locker room.
