Gritty and other mascots open I95.
It was a rather different scene today in Philadelphia, when every Philadelphia team mascot including Gritty of the Flyers was standing on a fire truck which crossed the recently rebuilt bridge along the I-95 in the city.
On June 11th, an 18 wheeler gas tanker lost control on a curve causing a fire and the sudden collapse of a highway bridge carrying over 150,000 vehicles and 14,000 trucks was reconstructed in record time.
Sadly the truck driver himself was killed in the crash. But after the investigation was complete US construction workers Ann highway builders worked 24 hours a day for two weeks to restore the vital crossing that connected the northeast to the southeast of the United States.
It shows the sheer determination and workmanship of the United States workers to get this job done as quickly and as safely as possible.
Hats off to them.
