With the off-season in full bloom and the Flyers about to create a new team with its rebuilding phase, one player in particular has had an solid career with the Flyers who happens to be James van Riemsdyk.

JVR was drafted in 2007 by the Flyers in the first-round second pick overall. His large frame at 6 foot 3 and 208 pounds gave the Flyers a definition of a power forward.
This kind of player certainly was needed at the time. During his opening three years with the Flyers, he had solid success. Averaging between 28 and 40 points a season, he built a foundation to become a fixture in their top 6.

With his third season closed, and having major injury trouble the Flyers felt they wanted to move on from JVR and traded him to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Luke Schenn.
JVR spent his next six seasons with Maple Leafs where his offensive numbers began to shine averaging over 25 to 30 goals per year.
Fast forward to 2018-2019, his tenure with the Maple Leafs came to a close. He returned to the Flyers to continue for five more years. JVR held a $7 million cap hit, one of the issues that faced him was his declining offensive talent and numbers.
Now 34, JVR needs to see which team would want his services as now he's become an unrestricted free agent. Now being on the back half of his career, it's unlikely NHL teams with sign him any higher than $2 million this season.
The Flyers will move on from him as they have ushered in a new era with Keith Jones and general manager Danny Briere where they will covet that cap space to find a new younger player and more offensive upside.
