When the Claude Giroux was traded back at the Trade Deadline to the Florida Panthers it was supposed to be for a long playoff run. Unfortunately for Giroux that didn't come to fruition as the Panthers would get blown out in the second round by the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The hockey world was wondering where Claude Giroux would end up next. There's was a lot of speculation that Giroux would want to play for Ottawa because it's close to home for Giroux, and with Giroux winding down his NHL career if he was going to Ottawa this was the time. However, there's some news that's popped up that the Ottawa Senators might of been trying to sway Giroux's decision months earlier.
According to an interview Giroux did with Faces Magazine recently, it sounds as if the persuasion game started in-season, during the All-Star weekend when Giroux was still with the Philadelphia Flyers. It sounds as though the Sens organization used some rather questionable tactics to get Giroux thinking about possibly playing in Ottawa.
It was at the All-Star game last year. Brady came up to me. I had never really met him before. He goes, "I was told to be nice to you this weekend, so you can maybe come with us (to Ottawa) next year." It was a joke. And I really didn't think anything of it. Since then, I never thought it would actually happen. But here I am.

Whether or not you like this tactic it obviously worked because Giroux is a Senator but I bet the Ottawa Senators aren't the first team to try to sway a players decision by pulling on the home heartstrings.
