So with that being said, could the Philadelphia Flyers have the next power forward of the future in their prospect pool, after selecting Gauthier with the fifth overall pick in the most recent NHL Draft?
Let's take a look at the stats, which endeared Gauthier to the Boston College Eagles Men's ice hockey, and Philadelphia Flyers organizations respectively.
The young Sweden born American forward is best described as an 18-year-old kid in a man's body. He uses his size in the corners, and his rare combo of size and strength at such an age, causes fits to opponents who go into the corners, or battle for pucks along the boards, as he bullies his way out of the battles most often with puck.
Offensively, the toolkit is an exciting one - Gauthier's powerful stride, allows the forward to get into open space, making himself an option for his deadly one-times, which leaps off his stick with little time to spare. His shot is heavy and accurate, as he gets down low on the middle of his stick, causing a whip-like reaction, that's devastates goaltenders. He is also not afraid to drive the net, and cause havoc for opposing goaltenders. When given space, the Flyers prospect explodes up ice, creating offensive opportunities for his squad.
Defensively the strength, and ability to protect the puck allow Gauthier to dominate boardplay situations, leading to zone exits. His fast and physical game allows him to break up opponents offensive attacks.
