Early in the first in game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, Valeri Nichushkin looked like he gave the visiting Avalanche an early 1-0 lead in the first.

His goal however, was called back due to an offside. Uncontroversial right? As it turns out, and called out by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman at the first intermission, the Tampa Bay coaching staff had no business having 1 minute and 20 seconds to make a coach's challenge.
Normally, NHL coaches only get 35-40 seconds to challenge a play. Friedman and some Avs fans believe it's because the Lightning were 2-0 down in the series, they got an exception. To make it more competitive, they were given some leeway.
"I think this was respect for the coach and his situation, the team down 2-0 in the series, I bet a lot of coaches were saying we probably wouldn't have gotten enough time to do that", said Friedman.

To be honest, given how the rules are currently written, the Lightning are definitely being favored. But in my opinion, this rule should be without a time limit. Meaning there should not be a time limit to request as a review. If the play is offside, then it's offside. It does not matter if the referee missed it or not. Every team is entitled to have the game called and officiated the right way. Only cheaters complain about the NHL goal checks.
