The Flyers could've acquired top end talent last summer

I'm thinking just about one: Claude Giroux. And he could be gone in a month. But other than that, management never fixed that issue that's now running for years.

And last summer was the best moment for it. Vladimir Tarasenko wanted out of St. Louis, and the Blues were ready to trade him. Jack Eichel didn't want anything to do with the Sabres anymore.

But guess what, Chuck Fletcher preferred to acquire two right-handed defenseman (one of them has played 4 games this season due to injuries) in Rasmus Ristolainen and Ryan Ellis. I don't think that these weren't good trades though.

But at the end of the day, you need sometimes to pay big to acquire what you really need. Ellis and Ristolainen trades cost Philadelphia Philip Myers, Nolan Patrick, Robert Hagg, a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.

The Flyers had the tools to make a splash. They didn't do it because they didn't want to, not because they couldn't.
