On Thursday afternoon, Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier and the team USA squad took on Finland for their chance to play for Gold. After having an already impressive showing at World Juniors, Gauthier added another one to the stat sheet and the highlight reel as he netted a clutch, game-winning goal to advance Team USA.
Gauthier's goal was a beauty as he curled in from the right faceoff dot and fired a laser past Finnish goaltender Niklas Kokko. Team USA had fought their way back from a 2-0 deficit, to take the lead with three minutes left.
Gauthier is already having a tournament to remember as he is the top scoring leader with 12 points on two goals and ten assists. Gauthier has been known for his shot, but it's his ability to pass and create goals for his teammates that has been on display and turned heads at World Juniors.
Team USA would hang on and advance to the Gold Medal round as they take on Sweeden today at 1:30p.m. EST.
