What's Old Is New Again, But Do We Truly Like It?

Since the Flyers revealed their new jersey design a couple of days ago, fans have had many thoughts. Most are positive, but there's been a few gripes with how the sleeve numbers look, and the new IBX sponsorship patch that will appear on the orange home and black third jerseys.

With every new jersey reveal I always say "I wanna see it on the ice first" before I truly decide how much I like it. My initial thought for these is they are clean; I like them, and given they're inspired by an old jersey design, I can only imagine that also means they'll look pretty nice when on the ice, in-game action, too. But there's always that off chance, even though they look similar to something old, that something that appears "clean" when looking at a jersey when it's revealed doesn't necessarily appear that way once they're "in action", and the players are constantly moving around.
I've seen many jerseys revealed where the initial thought is "That looks hideous", but it turns into "It's not that bad once they put it on the ice". I've also seen "those jerseys look amazing" quickly turn into "Meh, they're cool when you're just looking at them, but when you're forced to follow them around on the ice they're not as cool as they first looked".
It happens quite often with new jerseys, and while I don't anticipate that being the case with these jerseys because they're an old design brought back to life, I'll stick to my usual "I'll decide how much I truly like them when they're on the ice" stance.

I imagine I'm not the only one that takes that approach with these things.
As of yesterday, for those of us that do indeed have that thought, we now know the upcoming season's pre-season schedule, and subsequently, the dates of the first chances to decide how much we'll truly enjoy them. According to the release, the new away jersey design will be on display in a game for the first time on September 25th, and our first look at the new home jersey design in-game action will be five days later on September 30th(coincidentally, both games are scheduled against the New Jersey Devils.)
This isn't the first time the Flyers have unveiled a new jersey design, and it most likely won't be the last, but with each new design comes more fan opinions. Most of the time, the opinions widely conflict. For the most part, from what I have seen, most are theoretically pleased with this design. Some have nitpicked the new IBX sponsorship patch, and some aren't pleased with how the numbers are being displayed on the jersey's sleeves, but for the most part, the new design has been pretty well received from the "still shots" we have seen released by the team.
We'll see if it remains that way after the jerseys have been used within a game in a few months, or if many opt to change their minds because while the jersey is aesthetically pleasing, it's not great once it's being used for its intended purpose.
