"Injuries have not slowed down the Philadelphia Flyers of late as they extended their point streak to 11 straight games with a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. The Flyers needed just 28 seconds and one shot to open the scoring this afternoon. Ivan Provorov led the rush out of his end and got the puck to Claude Giroux along the right boards. Provorov went right up the middle to an open spot in the slot where he received a feed back from Giroux and fired a top corner laser past Craig Anderson for his 11th goal of the year. Shayne Gostisbehere was credited with the secondary assist. Robert Hagg doubled the Flyers lead at 7:14, just over a minute after coming out of the penalty box. Hagg picked up a loose puck at center ice then side-stepped a hit from Mark Borowiecki at the blue line before firing a wrist shot, from the right dot, past Anderson to the short side for his second career NHL goal. The Senators had a nice push after the Flyers second goal and they drew a hooking penalty on Shayne Gostisbehere. Mike Hoffman tied the game on the ensuing power play at 12:14 with a one-timer from above the right circle that beat Petr Mrazek to the glove side. Provorov was in front of his goaltender and the puck appeared to nick off of him and slightly change direction on its way by. Zack Smith appeared to tie the game about 12 minutes into the second period as he got inside position on Nolan Patrick to get to a juicy rebound given up by Mrazek. However, head coach Dave Hakstol challenged that the zone entry was offside and after a quick review he was proven to be correct so the goal was taken off the scoreboard. Giroux gave the Flyers a 3-1 lead at 4:15 of the third period. Brandon Manning made a great stretch pass that got the captain in behind the Senators defense and then he deked the puck around Anderson's left pad for his 22nd goal of the year. Manning picked up another primary assist less than three minutes later as Nolan Patrick extended his goal streak to four straight games by getting to the front of the net and redirecting Manning's shot from the point past Anderson. Jakub Voracek picked up his 56th assist on Patrick's ninth goal of his year career. Manning's huge third period continued with a fluke goal to make it 5-1 less than two minutes later. Anderson left the net to play Manning's dump in along the boards, but the puck hit a partition in the glass and made a hard right and went directly into the vacated goal. Ryan Dzingel got one of the goals back while at 4-on-4 with just over three minutes remaining in the game as he fired a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that beat Mrazek to the short side. The sloppy finish to the game continued as Matt Duchene cut the lead to 5-3 in the final minute of the game as he got the front of the net and swept home a Mrazek rebound. The win jumps the Flyers over the Washington Capitals and ties them with the Pittsburgh Penguins atop the Metropolitan Division. Both teams are in action tonight with Pittsburgh at the Florida Panthers and the Caps hosting the Buffalo Sabres."
