"Matt Read's NHL career got off to a great start after singing as an undrafted free agent out of Bemidji State University. He scored 24 goals and 47 points in his rookie season of 2011-12. He scored 11 goals and 24 points in the lockout shortened season of 2013 and racked another 20 goals and 40 points in 2013-14. Things have not gone as well for Read over the last four seasons. Since scoring 57 goals in his first three NHL seasons, he has just 29 over the past three plus years. In fact, he spent the majority of this season playing in the American Hockey League, something he hasn't done since he signed back in the spring of 2011. He's been back up with the Flyers for the past three games and has contributed nicely on the penalty kill and as he told Sam Carchidi of philly.com, he knows this could be his final shot at staying in the NHL. "Just hoping to get an opportunity and run with it," Read said on Monday. "Go out there and do the little things that allow me to stay in the lineup and help this team hopefully go on a little run here and go on a playoff run. "Every day, I'm trying to earn something for the future, and if I let it slip away or [don't] play as well as I can, it could be the end of my NHL career. You never know. I'm fighting for my hockey career here, and [I want to] have fun with it at the same time." Read will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, so he is on a tryout for a spot with either the Flyers or another NHL team for next season. "
